about

Written & Performed by Quina Parchment
Inspired by: Octavius Winslow's "The Weaned Child"

lyrics

You blow
chills
down
my spine,
As though
a cool breeze
lifted
the green leaves
attached
to me, this vine,

To expose
the underside,
intricately designed
inside of me

And I’m
intrigued…

So I
suck up
your water,
feeling a sense
of rushing release,
You seem
to quench
my need

So I
let my roots
run
deep,
and
deeper
they go

So I
grow, this vine,
reaching out
to you
around
you,
all over
you,
until you
are covered
with me,
or I
filled
with you
You and I
suddenly
seem
one

But my
roots stop
when they reach
a rocky
spot
beneath
your foundation

My
supply
of life
running
dry

So I,
this vine,
tightly squeeze
around you,
hoping
you
will preserve
me

Because now
my roots
are
drying,
my green leaves
withering

And I
am crying,
“If only I had eyes to see!
This
beautiful building,
so elaborately crafted,
was
decaying and unstable,
crumbling apart
underneath me!”

That cool breeze
came
from the
swinging
to
and fro
as
my object of affection
was
falling,

taking me, this vine,

down
with it
to burn,
crushed
underneath
the smoky rubble
of what once seemed
a strong tower.
