Think: the "church" at Laodecia (Revelation 3:14-22)
lyrics
A year with no storms
brought forth
a crop
different than the year before
The fruit seemed healthy
bright
alive with color
but once bitten into
lacked nutrients,
and its seeds
were mysteriously missing
And even the trees
seemed stronger with
thick trunks
but their trunks
when knocked upon
sounded strangely hollow,
their branches stretched wide
but roots were skinnier
less firmly gripping
the drying soil
less deeply pressed
into the ground below
And the pond was a deep blue,
sparkling
but shallower than before
less fish
found a home in its
once transparent skin
The grass was finally greener
and upon it the flock grazed
somehow unable to relate
to those skinnier sheep
in the other
tempest-stricken pasture
And the people,
you see,
had more than enough to eat
their belt buckles were bursting
holding back the fat
of prosperity
They were laughing
happy
at their feasts
Their houses intact
and hands un-calloused
from that
storm-less year…
But a creeping
weight sat upon their chests
as they reclined at night
causing them to sigh
before falling asleep again.
